Kevin J. Contrera, MD, MPH

Kevin J. Contrera, MD, MPH, received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Cleveland Clinic before pursuing fellowships in advanced head & neck surgical oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Contrera specializes in removing and reconstructing tumors of the mouth, throat, thyroid, voice box, skin, and nasal cavity. As a microvascular surgeon, he performs “free flap/tissue” reconstruction while always emphasizing functional optimization of his patients. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is credentialled by the American Head and Neck Society to perform transoral robotic surgery.

His research focuses on advancing head and neck oncology through clinical trials and has been supported by the National Institutes of Health. He has received over a dozen national research awards, including from NRG Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has held national leadership positions in the American Head and Neck Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Medical Association.
